Dovetail Ceramic Chute Liners with Steel Retaining Strips
In abrasive bulk material handling, ceramic wear resistance is only part of the solution. How the ceramic is secured to the steel structure is equally important.
Dovetail ceramic chute liners use specially shaped alumina ceramic pieces and matching steel retaining strips to create a mechanical locking structure. This design is intended for equipment where conventional adhesive-bonded tiles may not provide the preferred retention method.
How the Dovetail Locking Structure Works
Each ceramic piece has a dovetail-shaped groove that fits onto a matching steel retaining strip.
The steel strips are welded to a supporting steel structure according to the required ceramic layout. The ceramic pieces are then fitted into position, with the retaining strips located beneath the wear-facing surface.
Unlike direct-bonded ceramic tiles, this arrangement uses mechanical engagement to help retain the ceramic pieces.
The ceramic profile, steel strip dimensions, end restraints, and support structure must be matched carefully. Where specified, an additional bonding or bedding material may also be used.

Where This Design Makes a Difference
Dovetail ceramic liners can be considered for selected wear zones in mining transfer chutes, hoppers and other bulk material conveying equipment.
The arrangement is particularly relevant when engineers need to review:
Ceramic thickness alone does not determine suitability. Particle size, impact severity, temperature, and the condition of the supporting structure must also be assessed.
Custom Ceramic and Steel Strip Arrangement
ELACERA can review dovetail ceramic lining requirements based on customer drawings and operating conditions.
The review focuses on matching the ceramic profile with the steel retaining strips, including strip spacing, ceramic arrangement and the available installation space.
Depending on the project, the supply may involve individual dovetail ceramic pieces with matching retaining strips or a fabricated ceramic-steel liner assembly.
Before manufacturing, the final structure and supply scope should be confirmed against the approved drawings.

Information Needed for a Quotation
Please send the equipment drawing or existing liner dimensions, ceramic thickness, required quantity, and operating conditions.
Photos showing the current wear pattern or failed lining are also helpful.
ELACERA can then review the proposed dovetail ceramic fixing arrangement for your application.
